Dr. Sullivan earned her BSN (1975), MS (1992), and DNP (2013) from JHSON. Prior to beginning her work at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Dr. Sullivan had a wide variety of nursing experiences that included ED/trauma/critical care of both adult and pediatric patients, nursing management, a nurse educator role working with new graduate nurses, and a clinical nurse specialist role focusing on care coordination and readmission reduction. In her current role as the Director of Immersive Learning, she is responsible for the integration of simulation into the pre-licensure program, enhancing student learning and meeting program and course objectives. She is also responsible for the overall management of the simulation center. Additionally, she teaches medical/surgical nursing in the pre-licensure program. Dr. Sullivan's research focuses on the use of simulation in nursing education; both in academia and practice. In practice, the focus is on improving the nursing response in the first few minutes of a cardiac arrest using rapid cycle deliberate practice simulation. She was a member of the 2015 NLN Simulation Leader cohort and worked with the American Heart Association on a project exploring the best simulation strategies for maintaining CPR competencies. Dr. Sullivan publishes and presents locally, nationally, and internationally on simulation and resuscitation training.
